It was a busy weekend for Clayton at the Florida Horse Park over the weekend. Not only did he compete 5 horses but he was also the Course Designer for the Cross Country, Beginner Novice through to Preliminary.
It was a great morning of Dressage with all the horses scoring in the 20’s. FE Caison stepped up to Preliminary level, leading the Open Preliminary section on a dressage score of 24.1. Caison is by Contendro who is the leading sire for event horses in 2015 and is one of Clayton’s favorites, also been the sire of Chatwin who just won the CCI2** at Galway. Kingfisher Equestrian’s, FE Mississippi had the best score of the 5 horses, scoring a 23.6 in just her 2nd event at Training level. Say’s Clayton, ” I was very pleased with all 5 horses tests. There has been a bit of a break competing over the last 6 weeks and we have really being working hard with all the young horses to establish their flat-work and I felt they all did their best tests to date on the weekend.”
Show-jumping and Cross Country saw really nice educational rounds for all the horses with all 5 jumping clear around the XC much to Clayton’s relief. As Clayton noted, “There is extra pressure been the course designer and then riding around your own courses. All the other riders are waiting for you to make a mistake and see if your design will catch you out! All my horses had great rounds, some were a little green just stepping up to the level but all responded well and I am pleased to say that everything rode as I had hoped it would”.
The weekend finished with Kingfisher Equestrian’s, FE Mississippi and RF Outlander in 1st and 2nd in the Open Training and FE Subiaco, FE Ophelia and FE Caison finishing in 5th, 7th and 10th in the Open Preliminary.
